- On a standard assessment of oral reading fluency, he improved from the 8th to 35th percentile (e., 27 percentile points gained); and improved from 66 words read correctly per minute to 111 words read correctly per minute (i.e., 45 words per minute gained in 40 hours)
- On a standard assessment of comprehension, he improved from the 15th to 71st percentile at the 3rd-grade level (i.e., 56 percentile points gained), and from the 2nd to the 40th percentile at the 4th-grade level (i.e., 38 percentile points gained).
- Together, these gains reflect more than one grade level of improvement in 40 hours of instruction.
