One year of academic growth in just 40 hours of instruction

When a student struggles, it’s easy to start searc When a student struggles, it’s easy to start searching for an explanation within the child. But learning science gives us another place to look: the instruction itself. Are skills being directly taught? Is practice designed effectively? Is progress being measured frequently? Is instruction changing when the data shows it isn’t working? At Fit Learning Online, we use the science of learning to make instructional decisions based on measurable student performance rather than assumptions about what a learner can or cannot do.Because when instruction is designed around how learning actually happens, remarkable growth is possible.Learn more about our science-driven approach at the link in bio.#fitlearningonline #learningstruggle #directinstruction #sciencebasedlearning #tutoring
Progress should be measured against yourself. 👏 A Progress should be measured against yourself. 👏At Fit Learning Online, we use personal bests to help learners focus on getting a little better than they were yesterday, not on keeping up with someone else.Maybe that means one more correct response, one fewer error, or a slightly faster time. Those small, measurable wins build momentum, confidence, and real skill over time. The goal is simple: keep improving from your own starting point! #fitlearningonline #education #personalbest #learning #fluency
Making mistakes is part of learning. What happens Making mistakes is part of learning. What happens right after the mistake matters! At Fit Learning Online, learners receive immediate, precise feedback when an error occurs, followed by an opportunity to practice the correct response right away. Why does that matter? Repeated errors can become habits. Quick correction helps strengthen accuracy, build fluency, and make sure learners are practicing skills correctly from the start.Just as importantly, learners don’t stay stuck or frustrated. Mistakes become quick learning opportunities that help build confidence and lasting success. 🧡#fitlearningonline #learning #education #tutoring #academicexcellence
MYTH: Learning takes time, no matter what. FACT: T MYTH: Learning takes time, no matter what.FACT: The right instruction can dramatically accelerate progress.Faster progress doesn’t mean rushing a learner or skipping important skills. It means making instruction more effective. When practice targets the right skills, is designed intentionally, and progress is measured frequently, learners can build fluency and mastery more efficiently. The amount of time spent learning matters, but how that time is used matters even more!#fitlearningonline #learning #education #fluency #mastery
Schools often move on to harder skills before the Schools often move on to harder skills before the fundamentals are truly mastered. When foundational skills become fluent, advanced learning gets easier. Learners can apply what they already know with less effort, which frees them up to focus on the next challenge. The problem is that too often, students are introduced to more and more content without enough time to actually practice, strengthen, and master the skills underneath it.Dr. Kimberly Berens breaks this down on the Rugby Coach Weekly Podcast, explaining why effective learning should focus less on simply covering content and more on building strong, measurable foundations. At Fit Learning Online, we practice the fundamentals, measure progress, and adjust instruction based on what each learner actually needs.🧡#fitlearningonline #fluency #mastery #learning #educationreform
Supporting learning at home doesn’t have to mean l Supporting learning at home doesn’t have to mean longer study sessions or more homework. A few small, science-backed changes can make practice more effective and help skills actually stick. 👏• Practice in small amounts, consistentlySkip the last-minute cramming. Repeated practice of small amounts of information over time helps learners retain what they’ve learned and build stronger, more permanent skills.• Measure fluency, not just accuracyGetting the right answer is important, but accuracy alone doesn’t tell the whole story. Fluency combines accuracy + speed, helping skills become more automatic, resistant to distractions and fatigue, and easier to use when learning something new. Short timed practice sessions and Personal Best goals can help learners build that fluency.• Make homework time focused + structuredInstead of letting homework stretch across the entire evening, try setting a timer for 15–20 minutes of focused, distraction-free work, followed by a short break. Clear work periods can help learners stay engaged, work more efficiently, and develop more independent study habits. And one important reminder: these strategies work best when a learner has the foundational skills needed to do the work in the first place. When those skills aren’t mastered yet, more homework isn’t necessarily the answer. Building fluency in those foundational skills is. #fitlearningonline #learningtips #fluency #k12 #education
Homework shouldn’t turn parents into teachers at t Homework shouldn’t turn parents into teachers at the end of the day! When a child struggles with an assignment, the first question should be: Can’t do or won’t do?If they can’t do the work independently, they may not have mastered the underlying skill yet. That’s important feedback that more instruction or practice is needed. If they won’t do the work, that’s a different problem entirely. Motivation and structure may be the missing pieces. Either way, endless prompting, reteaching, and homework battles at the kitchen table aren’t the answer.Parents can support their child, communicate what they’re seeing, and help build strong habits without taking over the role of the teacher.Homework should show what a learner can do independently, not what they can do with a parent walking them through every step.#fitlearningonline #homework #backtoschool #academicexcellence #sciencebasedlearning
You can’t lecture someone into mastery. Whether yo You can’t lecture someone into mastery.Whether you’re learning to read, play an instrument, or compete in a sport, expertise is built the same way: by breaking complex skills into smaller components and practicing them repeatedly until they become fluent, accurate, and effortless.Simply hearing about a skill or watching someone else perform it isn’t enough. Real learning happens through intentional, repeated practice.Dr. Kimberly Berens talked about this and the science behind more effective learning on the Rugby Coach Weekly Podcast episode, How to Design Your Coaching for More Powerful Learning Outcomes. 🎙️At Fit Learning Online, that same science guides how we help learners build skills that actually stick. 🧡#fitlearningonline #fluency #mastery #learning #onlinelearning
