The Problem Learners Face

Many parents come to us after their child has been diagnosed with a learning disability, is having psychological difficulty related to their school environment, or just can’t seem to find the day-to-day mentorship needed to master their skills. They have been told their child is “learning disabled” or “behind for their age”. But we at Fit Learning Online know a diagnosis or a learner’s age has nothing to do with whether or not a child can reach their full potential.

We evaluate each student based on their fluency in essential core skills, like reading, math, and logic.

Fluency is a measure of performance that includes accuracy plus speed and predicts important learning outcomes such as long-term memory, attention span, and the ability to apply skills for the learning of more complex repertoires

Problem 1: Struggling to read

Problem 2: Struggling in math

Problem 3: Struggling with comprehension

Problem 4: Struggling across the board – psychologically related, feeling unsafe, being in an unsafe school environment

Problem 5: Diagnosed with a learning disability

Problem 6: Not being challenged

How it Works: 3 Steps to Fluency

Getting to the core of what is blocking a learner from academic success is what motivates our 3-step onboarding process.

Pinpointing the Problem:

First, we administer an assessment developed by Dr. Berens in 1998 which pinpoints fluency across hundreds of foundational academic skills. Our assessment also includes CBM Norm-Referenced Assessments which provide percentile rank data on standard assessments of reading, comprehension, and math so that we can link the Learner's core skill fluency deficits with standard academic achievement measures…

Designing the Solution:

After the assessment, the assessor will present your child’s results with detailed tables and graphs reflecting your child's core skill fluency. The Assessor will also articulate our plan that targets disfluent skills and a milestone-driven roadmap to move them to fluency…

Transformation:

Your child’s Case Adviser uses their detailed assessment to design an individualized fluency-building program to target deficient areas. Your child will attend fast-paced, goal-orientated sessions with a Learning Coach where they receive explicit instruction and repeated reinforced practice of skills to fluency. Every skill we target is measured on Learning Charts such that evidence-based instructional decisions can be made. You will have continuous access to your child's Learning Charts so you can follow along with their progress…

Why Traditional Tutoring Doesn’t Work

The tutoring most parents are used to is like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound. It may help Learners based on what they’re working on in class, but it doesn’t address the deeper issues. Although traditional tutors may be subject matter experts, they receive little to no training in how to effectively teach. Our team is extensively trained and certified in the application of behavior science to instruction. We precisely identify the core issues right at the beginning. Our rigorous assessment process allows us to figure out why your child is struggling in the first place. We then design an individualized program to heal years of ineffective instruction and disfluency.

Accelerate Their Success

Unlike traditional tutoring models, we don’t want Learners to be enrolled forever.

Our mission is to harness one year of academic growth in just 40 hours

We develop independent, proficient, and self-initiating Learners who are prepared to take on challenges with confidence and creativity all by themselves.

About Dr. Kimberly Berens

Over 25 years ago as a graduate student in the behavior science program at the University of Nevada, Reno, Dr. Kimberly Berens ( AKA “Dr. Kim” to her Learners) founded Fit Learning in a broom closet.

As a graduate student, she noticed some alarming discrepancies between the education system and the way science indicates that children actually learn - discrepancies that still exist today.

Since then, Fit Learning has helped thousands of students rapidly achieve academic expertise. She is the author of the book Blind Spots: Why Students Fail…and the Science That Can Save Them.
