Why Traditional Tutoring Doesn’t Work
Tutoring most parents use is like putting a Band-Aid on a gaping wound. It may help students based on what they’re working on in class, but it doesn’t address the deeper issues.
Traditional tutors can be knowledgeable, but most of the time, they receive little to no training on how to teach effectively. Our team is extensively trained and certified in the application of behavior science to instruction.
Using our unique training, we can precisely identify the core issues from the outset, utilizing our in-depth assessment process.
Once the specific problem is known, we design an individualized program to heal years of ineffective instruction and disfluency.
How Our Program Works: 3 Steps to Fluency

#1 Pinpointing the Problem
Developed by our founder, Dr. Kimberly Berens, in 1998, we start with our proven initial assessment, which pinpoints fluency across hundreds of foundational academic skills. Once we pinpoint the exact issue, we can create a customized tutoring plan.

#2 Designing the Solution
After completing our in-depth assessment, a member of our assessment team will present your child’s results, including your child's core skill fluency. We will articulate a plan that targets disfluent skills and a milestone-driven roadmap to help them achieve fluency.

#3 Transformation
Your child will attend fast-paced, goal-oriented sessions with a Fit Learning Online Coach, where they receive targeted instruction and repeated, reinforced practice of skills to achieve fluency. Progress reports are generated regularly so that parents can see their progress.
The Problem Students Face
Many parents come to us after their child has been diagnosed with a learning disability, is having psychological difficulty related to their school environment, or just can’t seem to find the day-to-day mentorship needed to master their skills.
They have been told their child is “learning disabled” or “behind for their age”. But we at Fit Learning Online know a diagnosis or a learner’s age has nothing to do with whether or not a child can reach their full potential.
We evaluate each student based on their fluency in essential core skills, like reading, math, and logic.
Fluency is a measure of performance that includes accuracy plus speed and predicts important learning outcomes such as long-term memory, attention span, and the ability to apply skills for the learning of more complex repertoires.
Common Problems We See:
- Struggling to read
- Struggling in math
- Struggling with comprehension
- Struggling across the board – psychologically related, feeling unsafe, being in an unsafe school environment
- Diagnosed with a learning disability
- Not being challenged
How We Can Help Accelerate Your Childs Success
Unlike traditional tutoring models, we don’t want Learners to be enrolled forever.
Our mission is to harness one year of academic growth in just 40 hours
We develop independent, proficient, and self-initiating Learners who are prepared to take on challenges with confidence and creativity all by themselves.

About Our Founder - Dr. Kimberly Berens
Over 25 years ago as a graduate student in the behavior science program at the University of Nevada, Reno, Dr. Kimberly Berens ( AKA “Dr. Kim” to her Learners) founded Fit Learning in a broom closet.
As a graduate student, she noticed some alarming discrepancies between the education system and the way science indicates that children actually learn - discrepancies that still exist today.
Since then, Fit Learning has helped thousands of students rapidly achieve academic expertise. She is the author of the book Blind Spots: Why Students Fail…and the Science That Can Save Them.
